We’re recruiting for three key roles to support the Christian Rural and Environmental Studies (CRES) distance learning course.

  1. Principal Tutor (voluntary role)
  2. Conference Organiser (voluntary role)
  3. Administrator (paid role)

CRES Principal Tutor

The Principal Tutor leads the course.  You’ll be familiar with course administration and management, and have the vision to lead the course in new directions over the coming years. Reasonable knowledge of environmental theology and ethics, environmental studies and rural studies would be an advantage. There is one paid member of staff, the CRES Administrator, for whom you will have responsibility.

It is anticipated that the new Principal Tutor will have an overlap period with the present Principal Tutor, to enable them to get to grips with the role. They will be supported on an ongoing basis by the CRES Steering Group, who have a wide range of relevant knowledge. This post will give the successful applicant a large number of new skills, and the possibility of meeting new like-minded.

CRES Conference Organiser

You’ll be responsible for the smooth running of CRES events (currently two-day conferences and a residential each year). You’ll need to be highly organised and familiar with social media, websites, and AV systems. Familiarity with the Christian environmental movement would be an advantage. This is a new post taking out some of the work that is currently carried out by the Principal Tutor. It is anticipated that the new Conference Organiser will have an overlap period with the present Principal Tutor, to enable them to get to grips with the role.

CRES Administrator

You’ll ensure that all administration is managed efficiently and effectively to support the successful running of CRES.  This is a part-time post with a small number of paid hours each month (currently five), the number varying depending on student recruitment. This is paid at the rate of the National Living Wage, currently £12.71 per hour.

All three posts are expected to be mostly worked remotely.  Those appointed will be able to attend CRES events free of charge and will be able to claim travel expenses.

About CRES

CRES is a distance learning course jointly run by A Rocha UK and the John Ray Initiative (JRI), and validated by Ripon College Cuddesdon. It is managed by a Steering Group. The course is interdisciplinary, involving the study of environmental theology and ethics together with environmental studies and rural studies.

CRES is distinctive because it is almost entirely run by volunteers whilst being academically rigorous (for example, through the use of double marking and an external examiner). The CRES team work in this way because we believe it is important to provide high-quality training in these areas at a price that is affordable.

CRES has a unique role in creation care education/reflection, with a wide reach in the UK and beyond. Many of its participants go on to make significant contributions in a variety of roles. (TESTIMONIALS)
