Prepared for Everything! Rural and Environmental Mission- CRES Day 20th April 2024

Swaledale CollageOur next CRES in-person day (open to all) is on Saturday 20th April 2024 at Ripon College Cuddesdon (RCC) near Oxford. Our speakers are: Revd. Canon Caroline Hewlett, Vicar of Swaledale with Arkengarthdale; and Dr. Martin Hodson, Principal Tutor of CRES. On this day we will look at two contrasting, but overlapping themes: Eco Mission in a Rural Context; and Environmental Disaster Management.
In the morning, CRES graduate, Caroline Hewlett, will tell us about her work with bats in churches, churchyards, Forest Church, and much more. Caroline shows how it is possible to work with small churches in remote locations.
In the afternoon we will look at something a little different. For some time we have been seeing environmental disasters getting worse, even in the United Kingdom. We need to be better prepared for when such events happen. Martin Hodson has started to consider the topic of disaster management and will give us his thoughts on the topic so far. Then Caroline will reflect on her experiences of a major disaster, the Big Flood in Swaledale in 2019, how she coped, and how the community recovered.
